» Paradise Revealing
By Carlie Singh Partridge | Published 04/1/2008 | On the Hanger
Paradise RevealingMarylea Conrad knows the timeless allure of modesty. In a market saturated with exhibitionist swimwear, her designs herald the return of a sophisticated femininity. “Revealing” is the word often used to describe beachwear, but function and flirtation are the watchwords for Conrad’s inaugural line of beach apparel. Melia Conrad pieces (named after the designer’s oldest daughter), feature classic lines that channel classic retro-Hollywood glamour and flaunt a flattering ratio of skin to fabric. Conrad also knows that overexposure lacks charm, while comfort begets confidence

KahalaKahala is back! Like a Hawaiian version of the phoenix, that mythical bird that rises from its own ashes, this legendary Aloha shirt designer label flourished in the '40s, went bankrupt in the '70s, and was revived in modern times. Today the Kahala label is proudly brandished by a team of ultra-professional clothiers who are committed to preserving—and extending—the original's legacy.

Tori RichardSomething about Hawai‘i keeps turning visitors into residents. Mort Feldman retired from his children’s wear manufacturing business in Chicago in 1953 and headed for Hawai‘i, planning only a visit. Three years later he had settled in Honolulu and teamed up with Janet Moody, a designer whom he later married. Together they launched Tori Richard, a sophisticated women's resort wear company, named after Moody's daughter Victoria, and Feldman's son Richard. More than a half-century later, the thriving business remains one of the oldest apparel companies in Hawai‘i with son Josh at the helm.
» Paradise on a Hanger
By Dale Hope | Published 05/15/2006 | On the Hanger

Paradise on a Hanger is found on a 360-acre ranch, adjacent to a National Forest, situated outside Crawford, Colorado (population: 220 people and 7,000 cows). The company’s owners, Steve and Curielle Duffy, cheerfully admit that selling Aloha Shirts from an obscure site in the Rocky Mountains is either a challenge, or insane.

» Blue Ginger
By Claire Morris Dobie | Published 12/28/2005 | On the Hanger

Blue Ginger is a very popular brand of tropical-style resort clothing, created in Hawai‘i and inspired by traditional batik methods. Blue Ginger is also the name of nine charming retail outlets that sell this brand across the Hawaiian Islands. Both the clothing line and the shops are the creations of sisters Jill Mackie and Becky Erickson, who own and run the stores. The sisters opened their first store on Front Street in Lahaina in 1983. Blue Ginger launched with a simple objective of creating comfortable, affordable, quality clothing that would last for generations and make people happy.
