Volume 3, Number 1
Married 15 years ago at the Keawala'i Church, Baralt and wife Patty returned year after year to their special hideaway until one day they purchased one-way tickets and stayed for good. "Living on Maui is a dream come true," says Baralt. "With my camera, I am able to capture the most beautiful images that one can imagine." Much has changed for Baralt in the equipment area, considering he began with a Roloflex black and white camera, back in high school journalism days. Now the photographer shoots with a Canon digital camera. "The only thing that has not changed is having a photographer's eye and the patience to wait for the perfect shot," Baralt says. "That, and being in love with the subject matter, which for me is anything tropical, really puts everything together." Baralt is currently cataloging the hundreds of tropical pictures he has taken over the past 15 years. Some are available through the Haleakala Trading Company in Kihei, Maui (808.879.8700) in a line of tropical greeting cards called "Kihei Kards." To view more works from J. Upon his first visit to Hawai'i, J. Daniel Baralt knew he had found the ultimate eye candy for any adventuring photographer. "Every minute of every day is filled with photo opportunities," he says.
