Ron Dahlquist
With the sale of his first photograph to a small surfing publication almost 30 years ago, Ron Dahlquist found the validation and encouragement to pursue his passion for photography. Since that day, Dahlquist has rarely been seen without his Canon EOS 5D hanging around his neck. His work has appeared in (and on the covers of) numerous national publications including Life, Time, National Geographic World, Forbes, Esquire, Islands, Conde Nast Traveler, Outside, Powder, Ski, Surfer's Journal, Snowboarder, Windsurfer, Runner’s World, and more. His work has also been published in a beautiful hardcover book, Under a Maui Sun and the softcover books Maui, The Valley Isle and Flowers of Hawai‘i.

Dahlquist has been using Canon equipment for more than 15 years, rotating a steady procession of digital SLRs until finally sticking with the 12.8 mp Canon EOS 5D, which he says allows him to capture any scene and enables him to produce high-quality prints and giclees.

Dahlquist says he finds inspiration from a relatively small group of photographers such as Eric Meola, Pete Turner, David Alan Harvey and others. He also scours issues of National Geographic, which he considers the benchmark of quality photography.

Of Hawai‘i he says, “I feel really blessed to have lived in Hawai‘i for the past 18 years. Maui is a photographer’s paradise. From the beaches and coastline to upcountry and Haleakala, photo opportunities are endless. I seldom leave my house without a camera. Never can tell when that next rainbow will appear.”
